Finding the right hospital product has never been simpler.
As part of the government reforms on private health insurance, hospital products will start to be categorised into basic, bronze, silver or gold product categories - making it easy to compare products across health insurers.
To belong to one of these product categories, the hospital cover needs to include minimum standard clinical categories set by the government. In most cases the higher the product category, the more standard clinical categories of hospital treatment you get. this isn't always the case though - some product names will also include a 'plus’ – for example, 'silver plus' means the hospital product includes more than the minimum required standard clinical categories for the silver category.
Will my premiums change as a result of the reforms?
Premiums are not impacted by the reform changes. Any changes to premiums will be communicated as part of the annual premium review in April 2020.
Why is ahm making changes now when it has until 1 April 2020 to make this change?
At ahm we’re all about the simple bit, so we’re implementing these ahead of 1 April 2020 to let members know exactly where they stand in relation to the reforms.
What do I do if I need a service which is being removed from my cover?
Will I need to re-serve waiting periods on these services if I change products?
If you need any of the services being removed from your current product, you can move to a product which includes that service. If you do this before 19 October, you will not need to re-serve any waiting periods already served on your previous product.
I am planning on going to hospital – does this impact me?
The impact of these changes will depend on your circumstances. If you’re on a hospital product being changed, before you go to hospital, get in touch so we can tell you everything you need to know.
I am already booked in for surgery – does this impact me?
If you’re on an impacted hospital product, we’ll still pay benefits under your current hospital cover towards ongoing courses of treatments and for pre-booked hospital admissions scheduled to occur after 19 October 2019. Just give us a call or live chat with us and we can go through your specific circumstances.
