At home programs
Rehab at Home after joint replacement surgery
After you’ve had joint replacement surgery, an extensive rehabilitation program usually carried out in hospital or a specialised centre, is sometimes required.
To give eligible ahm members greater choice and flexibility post-surgery, we’re extending access to Medibank’s Rehab at Home program until further notice. This means you may be eligible to recover and have your rehab in the comfort of your own home, after a partial or total hip or knee joint replacement.^ Depending on your needs, the program can include physiotherapy, occupational therapy and personal care like help with showering, domestic assistance and meals. With Rehab at Home, we will work with you and your health professionals to develop a treatment plan for you.
Rehab at Home runs for up to six weeks. During this time, we will liaise with your surgeon and GP to provide them with an update on your progress.
ahm funds the cost of your Rehab at Home treatment plan and care package. However, if you need additional treatment, such as scans or a follow up with your health professional(s), there may be some out of pocket expenses.
You’ll need to hold an active ahm hospital cover that includes cover for hip and knee replacements, and you’ll need a referral from your doctor. We’ll also need to consider how appropriate this service is for you, which can include checking how suitable your home environment is and the support you might have available there.
Waiting periods may apply and you need to be referred by your doctor before you are discharged from hospital, but we can talk through your individual situation if you give us a call. For further information or to find out if you’re eligible, call 1800 854 300.
Reconditioning rehab
As part of the Medibank family, ahm has also extended Medibank’s Reconditioning rehab programs to our eligible members until further notice. Reconditioning rehab services include cardiac rehab, rehab after a neurological condition such as a stroke, or reconditioning to re-build strength and independence after time in hospital.
You’ll need to hold an active ahm hospital cover that includes Rehabilitation and is paid up to date. You will also need a referral from a health professional (GP, physio or nurse) prior to discharge from hospital to determine how appropriate this service is for you. Eligible members will also be determined by how suitable your home environment is and the support you might have available there. Waiting periods apply.
For further information or to find out if you’re eligible, call 1800 854 300.
Hospital in the home
Following a hospital stay, we can organise nursing visits to assist with your recovery in the comfort of your own home until further notice for eligible ahm members. This includes services like wound dressing changes, IV infusions, or other similar hospital level services.
