As part of the Medibank family, we’re giving around $105 million in COVID-19 savings back to our members. This is in addition to the record $195 million financial support package we provided during COVID-19 so far. That’s a total of $300m in financial support for our members to date.
And we’ll continue to look for and return any known claims savings to our members. Good huh?
So, what do I get and how can I get it?
Approximately 2 million policies will be eligible, and the majority of members should expect to receive it as premium relief by the end of September 2021.
Depending on the type of policy you hold, the premium relief will be up to $52 for extras only policies and up to $175 for hospital and extras policies – which on average will be $25 for extras only policies and around $60 for hospital and extras policies.
But wait, does this apply to me?
The give back will be available to Australian ahm members holding an active hospital and/or extras policy at any time during the period between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021. Excluding non-resident covers.
What other support is available to me?
Doing it tough financially?
If you need financial support, check out our suspension options.
Just doing it tough
ahm members with hospital cover can continue to access the 24/7 Nurse Line and Mental health support line. Speak to a nurse or mental health professional on 1800 532 012.
What if I’m hospitalised due to COVID-19?
Members are still able to receive a temporary benefit towards heart, kidney, lung and chest hospital admissions, including those related to COVID-19, regardless of their hospital cover.
I can’t see my provider face to face:
No worries. We’ll pay benefits for telehealth services included on your extras cover like psychology, physio, chiro and more.
How is the give back calculated and applied to my policy?
The give back is calculated based on a percentage of your policy premiums, for the period of time you were a member during this financial year.
You don’t need to do a thing. We will be applying a lump sum give back amount to your policy in the form of premium relief by extending the date you are paid to.
Is the give back per person or per policy?
The give back is per policy and applicable for Australian ahm members holding an active hospital and/or extras policy at any time during the period between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021. Excluding non-resident covers.
How will this give back affect my premium payment?
We will apply the give back amount to your policy by the end of September 2021. Once applied, this means your next payment will be reduced by this amount. If you pay by direct debit or payroll, you don’t need to do a thing, your payment will be credited with the give back amount.
I’ve left ahm, can I still get the give back?
If you were a member holding an active resident hospital and/or extras policy between July 1 2020 and June 30 2021, you’re still eligible for the give back. We’ll send you the give back via cheque by the end of September 2021. Not available to members with Ambulance Only cover.
I’m currently suspended, can I still get the give back?
Yes, if your policy was active at any time between July 1 2020 and June 30 2021, you will receive the give back.
Why has it taken you so long to give back to members?
We needed to wait for the end of the financial year to assess what the claims savings would be before we could look at how to give back to members.
