We’re continuing to give back COVID-19 claims savings to our members, just like we promised.
Eligible members who held an active resident hospital and/or extras policy at any point between 1 January 2023 and 30 June 2023 will benefit. If you're eligible and we have your correct bank details, you'll receive a cash back by late October 2023.
Cash backs will be paid into either the same account that we pay claims into or the account we have registered for your direct debit, so log in and check your bank details are up to date. You'll receive a communication from us confirming the cash back amount. If we don’t have your bank details, we'll be in touch in the coming months to let you know how we'll process your give back payment.
ahm & Medibank made a commitment to return any COVID-19 claims savings back to members. The cash give back is the next phase in our support package. Since the start of the pandemic, our $1.15 billion financial support package has included the pause of premium increases, free days of cover and other member support options.
COVID-19 claims savings are savings ahm & Medibank have made due to government restrictions on elective surgeries and limited access to extras services for our members.
In 2020, the private health insurance regulator required all health funds to hold COVID-19 claims savings in order to pay for an anticipated catch up in elective surgeries and other claims.

Cash back payments for eligible members will be processed by late October 2023. You'll receive a communication from us in the coming months with further details. In the meantime, please make sure you login to your account to check or update your bank details.
This giveback amount is based on the amount you paid in premiums between 1 January 2023 and 30 June 2023 and how long you were an active member with us over those dates.
Reviewing premiums allows us to keep up with rising health costs due to a range of factors including increased cost of health services, the growing use and cost of medical technology, Australia’s ageing population and an increase in chronic health conditions.
It was vitally important for ahm to support members throughout COVID-19 from a financial and health aspect. As part of the Medibank family, we introduced a range of support programs in 2020 which continued to be available for members when they need them. More info

* To be eligible for the cash give back, you must have been an ahm member with an active resident hospital and/or extras policy at any point between 1 January 2023 and 30 June 2023. This excludes members with Ambulance only cover, Overseas Visitors Cover, Overseas Workers Cover and Overseas Student Health Cover.
