Your health insurance starts from the date you nominate. When you’re buying cover, you can nominate to start your cover today or on a future date. Your first payment comes out of your account after the nominated date, but you’ll still be covered from this date.
Things to note:
- Waiting periods apply before you can claim, unless you’re switching from another private health insurer and have served waiting periods for comparable benefits.
- You might also have to serve waiting periods if you have switched to a higher level of cover that has additional services or higher limits.
- Benefits are not payable until you’ve paid your first premium.
You can only claim for services received from the date your cover started or the date your waiting period finishes.
