Why would I need insurance if I’m travelling in Australia?
Travel insurance isn’t just for overseas trips. Even if you’re on a trip in our big backyard, your luggage can be stolen or damaged, cancellations can happen and rental cars can get damaged.
Having travel insurance can help provide financial cover for these things, and a whole range of unexpected incidents or accidents that can happen anywhere.
Cancellations – we can help provide cover for the costs on flights, accommodation, tours and other pre-paid travel expenses if you have to cancel due to unexpected (Covid-19 exclusions apply).
Lost, damaged or stolen luggage and personal items – we can provide cover for the cost of repairing or replacing your belongings if they get lost, stolen or damaged during your trip, up to $6,000 (item and aggregate limits apply. Comprehensive product only).
Rental vehicle insurance excess – if you hire a car and choose to take out insurance with the provider and the vehicle is damaged or stolen whilst in your car, we can provide cover for the cost of the excess up to $5,000.
What is rental car insurance excess cover?
The rental car excess is the amount you’re liable to pay your rental company if your hire car becomes damaged or stolen in your care. Our domestic policies automatically include cover for your rental vehicle insurance excess up to $5,000.
Does domestic travel insurance cover me for medical expenses?
Unfortunately, legislation prevents us from providing domestic travel insurance cover for any medical expenses while you’re travelling in Aus. The good news is that medical cover is generally provided by Medicare if you’re an Australian citizen or permanent resident, plus there’s also cover under your private health insurance if you’re an ahm health insurance member.
What if I take frequent trips around Australia?
If you travel interstate often you might want to consider our Domestic Annual Multi Trip policy. This is a convenient way to save time and potentially money as cover will kick in when you’re 250km from home up to the journey duration you’ve selected. This means even some travel might be covered without leaving the state.
