Does health insurance include dental work?
Depending on what level of extras cover you have with us, you will have access to benefits for dental services in the following categories:
Routine dental
This includes:
X-rays
Examinations and consultations
Clean and polish procedures
Tooth extractions
Minor restorative services such as fillings
Complex dental
This includes:
Periodontics (root planing, oral surgery for prostheses, jaw injuries or non-tooth-related oral surgery)
Endodontics (filling of a root canal)
Major dental
This includes:
Indirect restorations
Crowns
Veneers
Bridgework
Implants and dentures
(Major dental doesn't include orthodontic treatments).
Does health insurance help with the bill for braces?
If your ahm extras cover includes orthodontics, and you’ve served your waiting period, we’ll help with the bill for orthodontic services like braces, up to your annual limit (and lifetime limit and/or sub-limits if applicable). The claims need to be accompanied by a detailed treatment plan from your recognised Dental Practitioner (an orthodontist, for example) . We’ll only pay benefits towards dental and Orthodontic treatments that are delivered in person, and by a recognised provider.
Does health insurance help with the bill for orthodontics?
Orthodontics is only included on some products. We’ll only pay benefits, up to your annual limit and lifetime limit, towards dental and orthodontic treatments that are delivered in person, and by a recognised provider provided you've servied your waiting period.
When claiming on orthodontic services, make sure you include a detailed treatment plan from your recognised Dental Practitioner (an orthodontist, for example).

Does health insurance help with the bill for dental implants?
Yep, if your ahm extras cover includes major dental, and you’ve served your waiting periods, then we’ll help with the bill for dental implants and dentures up to your annual limit (and lifetime limit or sub-limits if applicable).
Does health insurance help with the bill for wisdom teeth removal?
Wisdom teeth may be wise, but they’re also a bit complex. Their extraction isn't one-size-fits-all; sometimes it may be a simple out-patient procedure with local anaesthetic, while on other occasions it may be an in-patient procedure under general anaesthetic at a hospital.
When chatting to your dentist or oral surgery specialist, jot down the details – including item numbers – of your treatment plan, then give us a call to check them against your ahm extras policy inclusions. We can also check whether you've served your waiting periods and let you know if you've used your your annual limit (and lifetime limit or sub-limits if applicable).

Yep, if your ahm extras cover includes major dental, and you’ve served your waiting period then our health insurance can help with the bill for veneers up to your limits.
Does health insurance help with the bill for endodontics?
Yep, if your ahm extras cover includes complex dental, and you’ve served your waiting period, then we’ll help with the bill for endodontics up to your limits.
